The FBO Operations Manager is responsible for the complete oversight of the Fixed Base Operation’s daily processes to include customer service, fuel sales, and hangar and office rental.  Provides effective leadership and support to a team of supervisors and FBO support personnel always maintaining a positive atmosphere and pleasant work environment.  Manages quality assurance, inventories, properties, equipment, and ensures adherence to all applicable policies, procedures, and safety standards.  The FBO Manager will continually create, analyze, and improve organizational processes and procedures with a genuine commitment to provide total customer satisfaction.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

  • Main priority will be to ensure customers’ needs are always met or exceeded
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external customers
  • Direct involvement with all aspects of employee management from initial recruitment through exit interviews
  • Monitor and maintain control over FBO team schedules on a regular basis to ensure full staffing during all shifts
  • Train, mentor, skill set development, supervise, and continually evaluate front-line team members
  • Foster and maintain an active and engaging work environment for team members
  • Plan, direct, coordinate, and oversee activities associated with general aviation ground support services including customer service, aircraft fueling and line operations, avionics services, hangar facilities, and the teams performing these duties
  • Strive for continuous improvements and ensure employees join forces to communicate, stay customer focused, improve work performance and maximize potential
  • Direct oversight of facility’s equipment ensuring all are maintained to manufacturer’s specifications and safe working order
  • Inspect vehicles and fuel storage facility, communicate maintenance, safety, or property issues to applicable department
  • Ensure all facilities are in good repair and maintained to a high level of cleanliness
  • Ensure and enforce governmental agency compliance and industry best practices in all operational areas and among all training, safety, and security standards
  • Liaise on a continual basis with governing agencies and airport authorities
  • Coordinate and oversee third party service providers ensuring accuracy and efficiency
  • Business promotion and development
  • Analyze local market competitors, create and carry out competitive strategies for product and pricing options
  • Assist in creating and managing department budget with FBO expansion as the goal
  • Financial management to include capital expenditures, forecasting, budgeting, audit performance and expense management
  • Profit & Loss accountability
  • Various special projects
  • Recognize and develop growth opportunities for the FBO market
  • Develop and promote new business plans
  • Identify strategic opportunities that align with organizational goals and act effectively to capture business
  • Formulate an emergency response plan in the event of a fire, aircraft incident or accident, or any other emergency
  • Be compliant and consistent with Chantilly Air policies, applicable laws, safety and aviation regulations


Have a Bachelors Degree in Business, Aviation Management or similar field is preferred


Qualification Requirements

  • Individuals applying must meet or exceed the following qualifications:
  • Must have a minimum of five years management experience and three years of experience in the aviation industry
  • Have a Bachelors Degree in Business, Aviation Management or similar field is preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products including Word, Excel, Outlook, a working knowledge of Power Point, and various web-based programs
  • Be an active team leader with exemplary management, communication, and decision making skills
  • Knowledge of one or more FBO Software programs
  • Highly Experienced and a complete understanding of OEMs and the aviation industry
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment and random Drug Screenings, Background Check, Credit Check, DMV Check and Employment Verification
  • Flexibility, self-motivation, and a positive attitude
  • Working knowledge of applicable fuel standards
  • Working knowledge of fuel farm management, quality control, and safety
  • Working knowledge of the NFPA
  • Experienced successful compliance with FAA and Government fuel audits
  • Experience in compliant Line Service training and maintaining records
  • Demonstrate successful leadership of a diverse group of employees and proven collaborative, adaptive solutions
  • Show previous direct engagement in decision making and related outcomes
  • Possess personable traits in order to be relatable to customers and foster client relations and communication
  • Show a natural desire to be growth and expansion driven
  • Be able to drive results with high personal accountability and have a strong record in successful managing of an FBO or equivalent facility
  • Demonstrate previous success in customer relations, management, and other performance areas
